For Good

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.
— ROMANS 8:28 (KJV)

When I was younger, I had no idea why I had to do some of the things I was forced to do. When I was sick, I had to take the nastiest medicine. Sure, they had bubble gum flavor and grape, but it seems like the nastiest ones work best. Why did I have to do chores after school? Because it would teach me later in life how to clean up after myself and keep a clean home. At the time, these things seemed unnecessary and like punishment, but I later found it was for good.

When you quote Romans 8:28, do you say, “All things work together for ‘my’ good…?” I know I did for a long time. “For ‘my’ good” indicates that I’m going to like what God does. “For good” means I may not understand it, it may make me uncomfortable, I may not even like it, but Jesus is in control and He cares for me. The good that God is working together will open doors you didn’t know were there. It will strengthen you physically, prepare you mentally and grow you spiritually. Remember, it doesn’t always have to feel good to be good for you. Just keep loving God, walking in His purpose and all things will work together for good.

Heavenly Father, I know that all things work together for good because I love You and I am called according to Your purpose. Thank you for strengthening me physically, preparing me mentally and growing me spiritually. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
