I Get to Serve

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, ... But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
— JOSHUA 24:15 (NIV)

This pandemic has put a halt to a lot of church activity. It’s sad that many Christians look at social distancing as a break or excuse not to do ministry. I can hear Bro. Johnson right now: “Whew! I don’t have to get up early for church this Sunday! I can catch it on the YouTube.” I can hear Sis. Jenkins too: “Child! I don’t have to attend all those church meetings pastor calls every day!” We all have said at one point in time, “I gotta go…”, “I have to go…”, or “They’re making me go…” and that’s not a good way to look at serving in the Lord.

You don’t “got” to serve. You “get” to serve! It’s an honor and privilege to serve God. The Lord has blessed you with the ability to serve Him, and His people, no matter your age, gift or status. And just because the church building is closed doesn’t mean you can’t do meaningful ministry. Someone needs to hear a kind word. Someone needs to know how to connect to the internet to watch church online. As a believer, serving can’t be undesirable. It’s a blessing! Take the time today to serve the Lord by sharing His love with someone else.

Heavenly Father, I choose today to serve You. Open my eyes, Lord, to see the opportunities You have placed in front of me to help others and share Your love as Your humble servant. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
