Take Up Your Cross

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
— MATTHEW 16:24 (NKJV)

In yesterday’s devotional, “Are You Available?”, you were charged to ask God, “What do You want me to do today, Lord?” then listen faithfully for His answer. If you didn’t take the time to do it yesterday, you still have time to do it now. What was God’s response to you? It’s OK if you didn’t hear His answer immediately. Just remain faithful and keep doing the last thing He told you. He will reveal the next thing He has for You soon. If He did bless you with an answer, that my friend has become your cross.

Jesus wants you to give up your personal agenda for the cross He’s given you. Your cross is your God-assignment. It’s what you were born to do. When you take up your cross and follow Christ, you leave behind failure, fear and a faint heart. When you deny yourself, you exchange sin for sacrifice and sanctification. No weapon formed against you will prosper when you accept your cross. When Christ accepted His cross, the result was resurrection, all power and a seat at the right hand of the Father. Imagine what awaits you when you deny yourself, take up the cross Jesus gave you and follow Him!

Heavenly Father, use me, Lord. I desire You. Today, I will deny myself, take up my cross that You gave me and follow You. Thank You, Lord, for speaking to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
