Don't Miss the Miracle

‘Teacher,’ said John, ‘we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.’ ‘Do not stop him,’ Jesus said. ‘For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, for whoever is not against us is for us.’
— MARK 9:38 – 40 (NIV)

Christians are called a lot of things due to the variety of traditions and cultural backgrounds that make us different. Some believers worship on Sunday while others worship on Saturday. Some believe in having bake sales and selling chicken dinners, while others push obedience through tithes and offering. Some sing traditional songs from hymnals, while others may have a gospel rap ministry. Should one tell the other to stop because they don’t serve God the way the other does?

Even though there are differences, there is one common factor - Jesus. Jesus is big enough to reach people in more than one way. This is why Jesus found teaching parables effective. It was a teaching method to reach people in a way they could relate to. Don’t miss the miracle because you don’t like the method. If it’s Jesus – Him crucified, buried and raised on the third day – let’s celebrate that Christ is being lifted, glorified and souls are being won for His sake. After all, there’s enough room at the hedges and highways for all us.

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating everyone in the body of Christ uniquely. I am gifted differently than my brother and sister so that I can win more souls in Your name. I will celebrate with the body and not allow my traditions to make me miss the miracles. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
