In college my choice of study steered me on the path of taking some difficult classes. I took classes that I felt had absolutely nothing to do with what I was getting a degree in. There were plenty of times I questioned why I was even in the class. Differential Equations? I’m never going to use this! History? I’m studying to become an engineer! Why do I have to know this? At the time, I didn’t know these strange classes were preparing me for experiences I would have twenty years later in life. And because I went through the courses, I was better prepared for what was ahead.

Dear friend, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Jesus warned you would suffer persecution for His namesake. And when you go through these trials, they make you partners with Christ in His suffering and you will have the wonderful joy of seeing His glory when it is revealed to all the world. You may not see it now, but even in the worst of times, you are being blessed and made better and stronger than before. Keep your faith and your hand in Christ. There is no failure in Him. There is no loss in Him. You have the victory through Jesus Christ. And while this strange thing you are facing may be a surprise to you, it’s not a surprise to God. He’s always working things out in your favor.
