God Needs Your Attention

It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.
— PSALM 119:71 (NIV)

Ever experience something tragic in life and wonder, “Why did this have to happen to me now?” Just when you don’t need something bad to happen and everything is finally going smoothly – BOOM! I mean, there’s never a good time for bad things to happen, so it has to be something I did, need to do or could have done better. If I truly believe God is in control, and He’s allowing this to happen in my life, it must be something He’s pushing me toward or … pulling me away from!

If God is allowing you to face hard times, there are two things you can focus on: one, God is still in control and two, Jesus has something for you to learn. A good way to get your attention is to cause a disruption in life where you have no other choice but to call His name. So, when life happens to you, don’t miss the lesson God wants you to learn in your affliction. It’s a scripture you’re supposed to remember. There’s a person you’re supposed to forgive.  There’s a holy decree God wants you to learn, but He needs all of your attention. Does He have it?

Heavenly Father, it was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees. You have my full attention. Teach me, Lord! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
