Bless Not Curse

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
— Romans 12:14 (NKJV)

Holding grudges is not healthy or holy. You may think dishing out your own dose of vengeance is good, but in the long run, it hurts you more than the other person. And on top of that, it’s not what Jesus wants of you. In the face of His persecutors, while hanging on that old rugged cross for you and me, Christ prayed to His Father that they be forgiven. He blessed them and not cursed them. If Jesus can do that, while experiencing the most excruciating pain known, then surely forgiveness is possible.

What’s more important: You getting them back or you getting blessed? What you have planned for your persecutors is nothing compared to what God can dish out on your behalf. And trust me, He doesn’t let anyone get away with messing with His children. Your job is to bless, not curse. Your job is to forgive, not re-live. It’s not an easy task. It’s going to take some practice, but you can do it. If you’re ever in doubt, just asking yourself, “What would Jesus do?” and do that! This kind of thinking will never steer you off path and will always keep you focused on doing what’s right and not what feels good “right now.” So, tell me, who do you need to bless today?

Forgiveness is for you

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your example. I will bless those who persecute me and walk in the path You have predestined for me. Strengthen my faith, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
