The Shot

No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
— ISAIAH 54:17a (NKJV)

When sports fans hear the words, “The Shot” they know it is referring to Michael Jordan’s 1989 game five winning shot over Cleveland Cavs’ Craig Ehlo. With three seconds left in the game, the ball was in Jordan’s hand. He later said that during the entire game, the home team’s fans had been booing him and taking personal shots at him to which he even missed a free throw from paying too much attention to their antics. In the last time out, he told his teammate, “I’m going to make it.” Ehlo reports he told MJ, “Mr. Jordan, I can’t let you score.” And the rest is history. Jordan scored and won the game. During an interview, Jordan said, “I never saw the ball go in, but I knew right away from the crowd’s reaction – silence – that it was good.”

You won’t always see your “ball” go in, but by the silence of your enemies you know God is doing something good for you! You may never know when the plan of your enemy fails and you may never know the evil that was intended for you, but you do know Jesus loves you and He said in His word that no weapon formed against you shall prosper. When you receive great news, a weapon didn’t prosper. When God woke you up this morning, a weapon didn’t prosper. When you made it home last night, a weapon didn’t prosper.  You don’t always have to see your “ball” go in. Just look around you, see where God brought you from and you’ll know right away that a weapon didn’t prosper.

No defense can stop you

Heavenly Father, You said in Your word that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against me in judgment You shall condemn. I claim Your word over my life and thank You in advance for all You’re going to do in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
