Godly Parenting

Train children in the way they should go; when they grow old, they won’t depart from it.
— PROVERBS 22:6 (CEB)

Parenting can be rough. Even when you’re blessed with great children, it can still have its hard times. You want to spoil them 24/7, you want them to like you and you want to have fun with them, but you must remember, God called you to be their parent, not their friend. You have to get comfortable with the idea they aren’t going to always like what you have to say. You have to be OK with the fact that it’s not going to always be fun and games. Your job is to train up the child God gave you in the way they should go, so when they are old they will not depart from the training.

Your child doesn’t need a friend. They can find a friend almost anywhere. What they can’t find is a great parent willing to do the dirty work, willing to be the “bad guy” that tells them “No,” and are able to withstand the attitude, hormones and stand by God’s word instructing them in the right way without folding or bending because the world has lowered their standards of godliness. My word of encouragement to the good, godly parents, step-parents and grand parents is to endure. Go to God for strength, wisdom and direction. Stay the course and keep training your children in the way they should go. That’s your responsibility to God. Whether your child accepts it now or not, continue to fulfill your commitment with Christ and rely on the fact that His word will not return to Him void.

Keep up the God work

Heavenly Father, You have called me to be a godly parent to the child You have blessed me with to train them up in the way they should go. I pledge to fulfill my commitment to You and raise them to be holy disciples of You. Lord, give me the strength, wisdom and direction to do so. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
