I Am Here

But Jesus spoke to them at once. ‘Don’t be afraid,’ He said. ‘Take courage! I am here!’ Then He climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped.
— MARK 6:50, 51 (NLT)

Jesus shows He is always in full control throughout scripture. No matter the circumstance, when Christ shows up or speaks, things have to change. In today’s scripture, the disciples are fighting strong winds and waves in the sea. The scripture says Jesus was about to walk past them on the water until they cried out thinking He was a ghost. The Lord noted their suffering and struggle, but was willing to allow it until they took their eyes from the storm they were in and focused on Him. Once Jesus climbed into their boat, the wind stopped, the waves became calm and the storm was over.

When you find yourself struggling and suffering in life, don’t be afraid, take courage and hear the voice of Jesus telling you, “I am here.” In order to recognize God is with you in your storm, you have to take your focus off your storm and place it on Him. Jesus is close by. He’s walking near you right now. But you can’t feel His presence while you’re focused on what’s going on around you. Stop for a moment, right now, and invite Jesus into your boat. Stop fighting the winds of life. Stop rowing against the waves of your circumstances. Call on the name of Jesus and allow Him to calm you in the middle of your storm.

Come into my boat, Lord!

Heavenly Father, I invite You into my boat. I am not afraid, and I am encouraged because I know You are here with me. And because You are here, my suffering has to end and my strength is increased in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
