Didn't Plan For That!

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
— JOHN 16:33 (NKJV)

There a numerous ways people choose to celebrate a new year. Countless traditions are passed down generation after generation. Some people make sure their homes are clean and all their Christmas decorations are down. If you’re like my mom, you must be sure to have a plate of black-eyed peas to ring in the new year. A popular tradition is to make new year resolutions. People set goals to accomplish in the new year, strategize ways to improve their lifestyle, and overall, plan to do better than the year before.

When you set your new year resolution, did you plan for trials and tribulations, stress and frustrations, pain and sickness? Of course not! No one makes resolutions of that kind, but Jesus warns, in this world, you will have tribulations. That does not mean you won’t accomplish your goal to lose weight, stop smoking or become debt free. It just means tribulation is a part of life. And even though you may have forgotten to plan for it, Jesus didn’t forget. Jesus has given you His peace in trying times. You can focus on reaching your goals and not what the world throws your way because your Savior has overcome the world. When things happen in life that you didn’t plan for, rely on God’s word to give you peace and know that everything is possible in Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the peace that I have in You. Even though I will have tribulations in this world, I will be of good cheer because I know You have overcome the world and nothing is impossible for me in You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
