His Priority

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
— MATTHEW 6:33 (NKJV)

As human beings, we have a lot of needs and wants. Sometimes the line that separates our needs from our wants can become blurred and we lose priority of what is most important at the time. One of the reasons this practice can become routine is due to the idea that “we” are in control and “we” have to do everything within our finite powers. Even though time after time again, we prove this way of thinking to be erroneous and we consistently miss the target we aimed for.

Jesus has promised you if you seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then all the things you need (and want) will be added to you. So, what does that look like? When you seek the kingdom of God, that means your priorities line up with Christ’s priorities. You want what He wants. His righteousness is God’s way of doing things. You love others the way Jesus does, you forgive others the way Christ does and so on. When you seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first, you’re no longer concerned with your desires, but God’s, and now you allow Him to provide for you instead of relying on your own power. This week, make His priority your priority and all these things shall be added to you.

Heavenly Father, I will seek first Your kingdom and righteousness over my needs and wants. I will rely on Your power to add everything I need in and over my life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
