FRIENDS: How Many of Us Have Them?

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
— JAMES 4:4 (NIV)

Let’s cut to the chase: Everyone in the world is not going to like you. You won’t and can’t be friends with everybody. People are going to find something about you that they don’t like. You can tip toe around, make sure not to step on anyone’s toes or offend them, and people will not like you because you’re too nice. You can go to church, Sunday school, bible study and prayer service, and people will not like you because you spend too much time at church. You can take care of your family, go to school, have an awesome career, and people will not like you because they think you think you’re better than them. You can’t win with some people, so it’s best to make sure you’re winning with God.

Be sure not to make enemies with God while trying to befriend people of the world. Become comfortable with who you are and who God says you are. Christ has a plan for you and sometimes people won’t be able to comprehend it. (People hate what they don’t understand.) It doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong or need to do things differently. It means you’re following Christ. It means you know who you are. It means you’ve accepted being a peculiar people. You aren’t meant to fit in. You are meant to stand out! And some people will not like that. So, since you can’t please everyone, make sure you’re pleasing God.

Heavenly Father, I choose to be Your friend and please You. I will not worry about how the world sees me, but be concerned with how You see me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
