Be Kind

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
— EPHESIANS 4:32 (NIV)

There are various acts of indirect kindness. Making donations to the United Way, Autism Speaks or raising funds for The March of Dimes are a few ways. Maybe you still hold the supermarket door open for others on your way out or back in the day, Blockbuster video used to ask you to rewind the videotape before you returned your movie for the next persons viewing pleasure. And even though you didn’t know the person you were holding the door open for and had no idea who would watch your returned video next, you did it to be kind. There are many ways to be kind to complete strangers, but why is it so hard to be kind to the people you see every day?

I suggest it’s a little easier to be kind, compassionate, and maybe even forgiving to strangers because it’s temporary and you don’t have to put up with them on a regular basis. It takes a little more effort (and the Holy Spirit) to be kind to those that have a history of doing you wrong, to show compassion to a group of people that cheer when you make a mistake or to forgive loved ones that made you question their love. It can be hard, but it’s not impossible. You need Jesus to be kind. You need Jesus to be compassionate. You definitely need Jesus to forgive! And if you need some motivation this week, remember God forgave you.

 Kind. Compassion. Forgive. Repeat.

Heavenly Father, this week I am choosing to be kind, compassionate and forgiving to my brothers and sisters. Thank You for the great example You have given me. I can do this through You! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
