First Importance

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
— 1 CORINTHIANS 15:3 – 4 (NIV)

The shopping for Easter suits and dresses is nice. The community Easter egg hunt is normally loads of fun if the weather holds out. Dinner with family you haven’t seen since last Easter is priceless and the endless photos and selfies of you slaying capture the moment perfectly, but this year, let’s make sure we pass on what we have received as of first importance: The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

My wife and I sat our children down the other day and made sure they understood the importance of this time of year and why we celebrate it as Christians. What good is being in the Easter play if they don’t know why? What good is dragging them to Palm Sunday Service, Holy Thursday Worship, Good Friday Service and Easter Sunday if they don’t know Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures, was buried according to the scriptures, and was raised on the third day according to the scriptures. Do the bunny hop, eat black-eyed peas, hunt plastic eggs, whatever and however your family chooses to celebrate, but first things first; make sure your family understands the foundation of our belief. The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to die for my sin. Thank You for allowing Yourself to be buried by man. Thank You, Lord, for raising on the third day with all power that I may be free! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
