Spiritual Workout

It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes.
— PSALM 119:71 (NKJV)

After my morning exercise today, I became a little discouraged. Why? Because I was sore! My thirty minute cardio routine routinely whooped my butt and my isometric muscle workout didn’t bring me joy either. I sought advice on the internet from people who routinely workout and my question was addressed: “When working out consistently, does the soreness go away?” The answer: “No!” In this particular video, actors from comic book movies told how they are always sore. It never goes away, but the results are worth it.

You may feel the same way in life. “How long do I have to struggle?” “Why is it always something?” I know how you must feel, but just remember, you serve a risen Savior that hasn’t failed you yet. The struggle you are experiencing is not to overtake you, but to take you over to the next level Christ has prepared for you. You have to endure your spiritual workout to yield the results you desire in life. Through your affliction you learn the Lord is your shepherd and you shall not want. Through your affliction you learn that you are more than a conqueror. Through your affliction you learn that all things work together for your good. Your spiritual workout may cause you soreness, but know your afflictions push you closer to God and the result is worth it!

No pain. No gain.

Heavenly Father, it is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn and keep Your statues. Strengthen me and guide me through my struggles to see Your face, Lord. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
