Words Make A Difference

Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
— 1 THESSALONIANS 5:11 (NIV)

I don’t like driving through mountains. That’s just a fact. I know they’re handcrafted by GOD and their beauty commands respect, but I’d rather admire them from a distance than drive through them! I had an opportunity to navigate several hills the mountains between Phoenix, Arizona, The Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and Las Vegas, Nevada provided. There were times I wanted to pull over and hand the car keys to someone else. I felt nervous and unqualified. “You’re doing a good job!” “You drive very well!” My family's words made a difference and encouraged me to believe what was difficult or impossible for me was possible.

You never know what someone is going through. It may not be as obvious as the nervous wreck I was behind the steering wheel at 7,000 feet elevations and you can’t always know someone’s life by their Facebook status. This is why it’s always a good idea to encourage one another and build each other up every opportunity you have. Your positive words may be everything that’s needed in someone’s life to make a difference, to keep them going, or even believe GOD exists. Jesus gave you the ability to build others up. Exercise your gift today and bless someone with a word of encouragement.

Heavenly Father, I make the choice today to encourage those around me. I realize my words can make a difference and I will use them to build others up and not tear them down. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
