New Old Territory

It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.
— ROMANS 15:20 (NIV)

Evangelism is among the most feared words for some believers. And you know what, it may not be due to any fault of their own. Some people believe to evangelize you have to win souls for Christ or you’ve failed. Others may believe you have to know how many commas are found between Genesis to Revelation in order to share your testimony. Evangelism can become so dressed up that the main purpose and focus become lost. We don’t know who to talk to, where to go, or when it’s OK to evangelize.

When it comes to evangelizing, you don’t have to look far. Start in your home with your own family or friends. You’ll be surprised how much new territory for Christ you can find among your old stomping grounds. This is the place God wants you to share the gospel of Christ: where He’s not known. You can talk about Christ while getting ready for work in the morning. You can talk about Christ in your bowling league. You can talk about what Christ has done for you on social media instead of how good This Is Us was (even though it was pretty good). There’s plenty of new old territory out there for you to build foundations for Christ. You just have to take a deep breath and start the conversation.

They’re waiting for you

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the courage and ambition to preach the gospel of Christ where He is not known. I will look to my old territories to build new foundations in Your name. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
