Why Do Good?

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
— GALATIANS 6:9 (NIV)

Have you ever wondered why do we do good things in life? I mean, it seems, when we do good things, either half the time, no one appreciates it and the other half no one even notices.  It can often seem like our tiny, good contribution to this vast planet, doesn’t even put a ripple into this huge pond. What’s the purpose of caring when no one else does? Why consider the feelings of others when yours is always an afterthought? Why do good while it seems the people who do not so good things are having their way?

Why? Because you’re not here for earthly gain. You’re not here for the same purpose you witness others living out. There’s a higher calling for you over your life and it requires that you not follow the example of those around you, but the example that Christ has given you. You do good because God wants you to do good. It doesn’t matter if the world is ending. It doesn’t matter if people are listening or seeing your good. It doesn’t even matter who’s president. What does matter is that you not become weary in doing good. Don’t become distracted or veer from your path. God promises you will reap your harvest, in this time, if you don’t give up. Keep doing good things. The One who needs to see you, sees you.

Heavenly Father, thank You for not showing favoritism, but for accepting me because I fear You, God, and am doing what is right. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
