God Is Light

If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.
— 1 JOHN 1:6 – 7 (NIV)

Light cannot exist in darkness, just as darkness cannot exist in light. As we seek the truth and better lives, we have to understand that living for Christ is indeed “black and white” and there is not “gray area.” We are either with God or not. Of course, that is not to say that we won’t sin or get things wrong every once in a while, but it does mean we aren’t making a routine out of being career sinners.

Is it easy to be a believer and live without the notion of a “gray area?” Well, rather than answer that, I’d like to hear your thoughts after thinking about this: If you claim to have fellowship with Christ, that means you are in a partnership with Him. It means, the same that interest God, interest you. If you’re walking in fellowship with God – partnership, lock-step – your life has no room for a “gray area.”  The light of God drives out any gray or dark areas. And when you’re in fellowship with God, you also have fellowship with other believers. Because of this fellowship, scripture says the blood of Jesus, God’s only Son, will purify you from all sin, so gray areas are nonexistent! If you think fleshly, living a black and white partnership with God will seem humanly impossible and unlikely, but when you’re in complete fellowship with God, you’ll only see light and possibility.
