You Can Forgive

You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to You.
— PSALM 86:5 (NIV)

People can be cruel and thoughtless. When I experience or hear about mean and vicious acts, or words people creatively produce or spew, I’m often left amazed and lost for words. How can people be so inconsiderate of other’s feeling? How can people be so careless? And I’m not just talking about the stranger who cut you off while you were merging onto the freeway and gave you the middle finger in the process. I’m talking about people in your family, people you grew up with, people you’ve known for years!

So, let’s be real. It can be difficult to forgive people once the damage is done. It’s not always easy to do, but you can forgive. In order to truly forgive someone, you have to call on a Higher Power for strength. Someone who is abounding in love, forgiving, and good. God. Only God can give you the strength and courage you need to forgive that family member that hurt you. Only the Lord can restore and empower you to forgive that friend who broke your heart. Forgiveness isn’t for the person who caused emotional or physical damage in your life. No. Forgiveness is for you to align with Christ, grow, and move forward in life. Do a quick inventory. Is there someone you need to forgive? Call on the Lord, your God, who is forgiving, good, and abounding in love toward you for the strength and courage you need to forgive.

It’s for you
