I'm Not Better Than You

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
— EPHESIANS 2:8 - 9 (NIV)

I believe one of the worse things we can do as Christians is judge others. Some us act like our feet are still damp from walking on water with Jesus when we’re really still drenched from drowning in our sin from last week! Jesus is known for hanging with tax collectors, converting adulterers, and giving sinners another chance. Remember, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us? Yep! That still applies today! We’re not of the world because of the gift through salvation that GOD saved us, but we can’t save those still in the world while we pretend we’re better than them.

I’m not better than you. There’s nothing I could have done to receive the gift of salvation GOD has graced me with through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. So who am I to wave a “baptized by fire, filled with the Holy Ghost” finger at someone while they’re struggling with sin? If they are struggling with sin, at least they care enough to know they need a change. That’s why it’s a struggle! And it’s up to the believer to help them through that struggle. I’m not better than the homeless person in front of Walgreens. That could have been me. I’m not better than the drug addicted father who’s lost everything. That could have been me. It’s because of GOD’s grace you and I are where we are today. It’s nothing I did on my own. Nothing you did on your own. Don’t you think it’s time we shared that grace with others?

No one can boast

Heavenly Father, it’s by Your grace that I am saved. Through my faith and not of myself. Thank You for the gift of salvation and the ability to help others who may be struggling. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
