Be Told Something

Listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path.
— PROVERBS 23:19 (NIV)

As a teen I’d been accused of thinking I know it all when someone had offered sound advice. And you know what I didn’t do? Listen. It was more than likely because I did think I knew it all and couldn’t be told something. As I became older, and now have teenagers (pray for me!), I realize the anguish I must have caused persons trying to make sure I was on the right path because now I experience the same resistance. I try to explain to my teens that I’ve been where they are and I can help. Just listen. Be told something!

That message does not only apply to teens. As a growing believer, no matter how long you’ve been saved, pastor, usher, deacon, culinary ministry, whatever, you too can still be told something that will set your heart on the right path. God isn’t necessarily going to burn a bush today to talk to you, but He will use people to get His message to you. Be wise, listen, and accept godly counsel. It’s not always about the vessel God choses to use, but the message He’s delivering to you.

I need you to survive
