Heavenly Citizenship

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ…
— PHILIPPIANS 3:20 (NIV)

Doesn’t it seem like some strange things are going on around you in the world today? More and more it seems like unexplainable events are taking place and you’re at the point where it doesn’t even surprise you anymore. Senseless mass murders, corrupt politicians, scandals – you name it. And if you can’t name it, just turn on your television or open an internet browser! It seems like it’s the only thing being reported on.

If the things happening around you seem strange, breaks your heart, or makes your spirit uncomfortable, it’s because you’re not a citizen of this world. You don’t belong here. You’re temporarily on loan from heaven to complete a mission that God has predestined for you, then bring you back to your true home. Heaven. When things get rough here, remember it’s not your final destination. God’s grace is sufficient and His mercies are everlasting. Christ will carry and see you through this wicked world while you complete His mission to glorify Him. The pebble you toss in this world’s pond can have a ripple effect that can change the conditions and lives of many.  Recall your citizenship and don’t get caught with your work undone.

Heavenly Father, You have equipped me to make a difference in this world and those of it. Please guide me and keep me as I carry out Your mission until You call me back home to be with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
