Use Your Filter

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
— COLOSSIANS 4:5 - 6 (NIV)

Saying the first thing that pops into your mind to someone isn’t always the best thing to do. Even if what is said is factual or truth, we should still consider the ramifications our words may have. You never know the damage ill-spoken words may have on someone. They could already be experiencing a rough day, not feeling well, or dealing with the weight of the world on their shoulders. Your words could be the determining factor in whether their day gets better after encountering you, or worse.

Today, consider your neighbor and use your spiritual filter when talking to those around you. Remember, your words have the power to give life or death. Choose life and make sure your conversations are always full of grace. Use every opportunity to stir up the gift in others and provide encouraging words of affirmation. When you use your filter, you’ll see a change in you, your life, and those around you. See your words before you say them.

Heavenly Father, I will be wise in the way I act towards others and make the most out of every opportunity. My conversation will always be full of grace with a kind word for everyone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
