Power In What You Do

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
— 1 CORINTHIANS 1:17 (NIV)

It’s easy to become distracted or discouraged when we think someone else’s gift is more important than our own. It can drive us to be a little envious and even hate on people when we note their capabilities and witness their blessings. But, when we put more effort into learning and using our gift, we accept the idea God didn’t call or equip us to do what others can do, and begin to realize the uniqueness of our gift and the power that accompanies it.

God gifted you for a specific purpose and just because your gift may be less public or popular does not make it less significant or less important. Paul realized he was not sent to baptize, but to preach. He further realized he was not gifted to preach with the same wisdom or eloquence others may. He understood to successfully activate God’s power, he had to be who God created him to be. Himself. That’s where Paul found the power of the cross and you too have access to this infinite source. You may not be called to preach or baptize, but what you’re gifted to do is important. Don’t envy others for doing or being something you’re not because you can find power in doing what no else can do. Be you.

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the power to do what You have called me to do like no one else. My gift is important. Give me the courage to be me and love myself. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
