What'd You Say?

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
— EPHESIANS 4:29 (NIV)

When your brother told you he had a drinking problem, what did you say? When your sister told you her boyfriend of three years cheated on her, what did you say? When your off-and-on friend told you they were hurt by your words, what did you say? When your co-worker boasted about voting for the candidate you didn’t vote for what did you say?

God gives us several opportunities to use words to give life and not death. Christ wants us to use words to build others up according to their needs. Today, purposely construct words that will benefit those who will listen. Put an extra effort into finding the words that will encourage your brother, affirm your sister, lift your family, and bless your friend. Pray for someone and then shoot them a text letting them know you prayed for them. You’ll be amazed at how what you say affects your day and those connected to you.

Heavenly Father, thank You for trusting me to choose words that give life and not death. I will not let any unwholesome talk come out of my mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
