Do As I Show

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
— COLOSSIANS 3:20 (NIV)

There was an old saying a few adults I knew used as I was growing up. “Do as I say, not as I do.” That meant you may see me doing some crazy stuff, but don’t pay attention to that! Listen to what I tell you and not the example I show you. For some children, I can assume that worked, but then again the prison population can sometimes prove otherwise.

Whether you accept it or not, you are a role model. Children are watching you and your actions. They will remember what you do more so than what you say, so make sure you gift them with the opportunity to have you as a godly example. It’s easier for a child to follow the example you show as opposed to the one you tell. Whether you’re their parent or acknowledge your responsibility as an older example for them, children are watching you and mimicking your actions. So let’s give today’s children a godly example they can follow and together we can please our Lord and change our world.

Heavenly Father, give me the strength and ability to be a godly example for our children that they can obey in everything, and in doing so, please You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
