First Things First

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
— MATTHEW 6:33 (NKJV)

Stephen Covey has a book called The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The third habit he presents is to Put First Things First. He writes, “Habit 3 is about life management … your purpose, values, roles, and priorities. What are ‘first things?’ First things are those things you, personally, find of most worth.”

When you list your “first things," what do you find of most worth? Is it your family? Money? Your career? Maybe its your health. Whatever your first things are find ways to manage your life in a way you will be successful in achieving them. Scripture promises the faithful believer if you seek God first and His righteousness, He’d add everything to your life you need. Jesus said whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. When you align your purpose, values, roles, and priorities with Christ, your first things are God’s first things. Managing life becomes simpler because you realize the job isn’t yours, but the Lord’s.

Heavenly Father, I will make my first things Your first thing by seeking Your kingdom and Your righteousness. I believe whatever I ask You in prayer, I will receive it. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
