Lasting Impression

Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.
— MATTHEW 12:33 (NIV)

I’ve had the opportunity to interview several people for employment. After reviewing an applicant’s list of references, I select a person’s name and ask, “What do you think they would say about you?” Of course, the applicant normally responds favorably of themselves; yet, within their answer, I’m not necessarily looking for what’s being said, but listening for what’s not being said.

Excluding the gossipy and judgmental people in your life, what would people have to say about you if asked? Do you leave a good or bad lasting impression on people? Jesus says a tree is recognized by its fruit. When you eat fruit from a tree, you admire its good taste and absorb its nutrients, which become part of you. What do people gain after interacting with you?  Be sure to release God’s goodness stored in you for everyone around you to receive.

Good tree. Good fruit.

Heavenly Father, I am a good tree that bears good fruit for all to witness through the goodness You have stored in me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
