Father Knows Best

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
— Matthew 6:7-8 (NIV)

Have you ever been in church during alter call and the person praying wants to show you how many scriptures they’ve memorized by praying for what seems like forever? I mean, I know praying God’s word activates your angels, but once you have their attention what are you asking them during that long prayer?! Jesus says your Father knows best and what you need before you ask Him. So perhaps prayer would be better spent asking for direction, praying for others, claiming God’s blessings, and asking Him to prepare you to receive them.

I can’t tell you specifically what to pray. That would be out of line and arrogant of me. I can tell you Jesus instructs us not to babble like pagans. Don’t miss out on a fulfilling conversation with God by following traditions. When you call on God and He answers, it’s not for you to tell Him what He already knows. Instead, ask Him to show you great and mighty things you don’t know. Let Him do some talking.

He’s got a lot to say!
