It can be easy to judge a book by its cover or to judge someone after being convinced by the rumors or gossip a human being has been reduced to. I too have fallen to the propaganda and judged people based of the narrow light shed on their lives during a situation or circumstance they’ve faced. It was my way of the land until I found myself on the opposite side of the jury being judged.
Since I’ve had a taste of my own medicine, I now offer mercy to those who aren’t perfect and have made mistakes. I no longer retract my hand from people by looking down on them or disassociating from them, but rather extend the compassionate hand of Christ to them in their time of need. Christ showed mercy to tax collectors, adulterers, thieves, and others we’d often not like to deal with. Maybe it was easy for Jesus because He saw past the sin and saw the person God created and loved. Will you try?
