Millennial Reason No.4: "We're Tired of You Blaming the Culture"

I am going to do something new. It is already happening. Don’t you recognize it? I will clear a way in the desert. I will make rivers on dry land.
— ISAIAH 43:19 (GWT)

(This series of devotionals will be addressing an article titled 12 Reasons Millennials Are OVER Church. The author provides 12 reasons why Millennials don't attend church. I expound on them in this series. )

Each generation believes they do things better than the next. From music to movies to manufacturing and education, there’s always a comparison between how things used to be done and how they’re done now.  We all have to be prepared and accept change or become irrelevant. I’m not saying the choir should start twerking next Sunday or I want my pastor to preach with his pants sagging, but to ignore these changes and continue “church service” in a like manner my grandmother did in the 80s would be doing our God a disservice.

Scripture says God is doing something new and it’s already happening, but the interesting thing about this scripture is the question that follows: “Don’t you recognize it?” Some churches hold so tightly to their traditions, that they may miss the new thing God wants to show them. Don’t tell me to pull my pants up, but teach me who God says I am so I will want to pull them up. Don’t blame the downfalls of the culture, but rather teach to its potential. Jesus wants to do something new through this generation and He wants to use you to do it.

Heavenly Father, show me the new thing You are doing so I can serve You and Your kingdom more effectively. Open my heart and my eyes. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
