Millennial Reason No.2: "We’re Sick of Hearing About Values & Mission Statements"

Then the LORD answered me and said: ‘Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.’
— HABAKKUK 2:2 (NIV)

(This series of devotionals will be addressing an article titled 12 Reasons Millennials Are OVER Church. The author provides 12 reasons why Millennials don't attend church. I expound on them in this series. )

Every church has a unique vision and mission statement. It’s easy to understand why this phenomenon exists, but for many, not so easy. Each pastor is given a specific vision and mission from God to lead the church entrusted to them towards living out God’s law for the entire body of Christ found in Mark 12:30-31. We are to love God with all our heart and love your neighbor as yourself.

The author of 12 Reasons Millennials Are OVER Church suggest Millennials are sick of hearing about values and mission statements that don’t express love for God or His people, but rather shed light on their linguistic ability to jazz up their local goals. These statements should be written plain enough for the people under them to run and do it, not just to print on t-shirts, banners, or hear preached every 3rd and 5th Sunday. When more of our churches make our love for God and His people more genuine and visible, perhaps this generation will be more inclined to check us out Sunday.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the vision and mission You’ve given my pastor for our church. I will love You with all my heart and love my neighbor as myself. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
