Millennial Reason No. 1: Nobody's Listening to Us

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
— 1 TIMOTHY 4:12 (NIV)

(This series of devotionals will be addressing an article titled 12 Reasons Millennials Are OVER Church. The author provides insight on behalf of its 75.4 million populated generation as to why only 4% are Bible-Based Believers. )

It is said that a good product or service changes with the needs of the people at that time. Companies wanting to be relevant, not only today, but in the future, invest heavily in research and development. Who knew you wanted a robot vacuum that cleans for you or a cell phone app that is able to locate and unlock your car? I’ll tell you who knew…the people that listened.

Millennials are the largest generation, with 75.4 million people, born between 1982 and 2004. Statistics say only an alarming 4 percent are Bible-Based Believers and attend church. Churches talk about Millennials not attending church, but do we listen as to why? There are very few churches that address this scary fact and put changes into action that are responsive to the needs and concerns of Millennials. They don’t want to just show up to church, but want to be part of an institution they can shape and change to meet the needs of today. Make sure your church has ways to connect with them including social outlets and leadership teams where they can make a difference.

Millennials. Don’t be afraid to respectfully speak out of your youth. We need you. We’re listening…

Heavenly Father, strengthen me as I encourage myself to set an example for believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. Use me, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
