Wrong Source of Power

Then Jesus said, ‘You would have no power at all over me unless it were given to you from above...’
— John 19:11a (TLB)

“The devil is busy!”

“Let me play Devil’s advocate.”

“The devil made me do it.”

As believers, we understand life and death are in the power of the tongue. In knowing this, we have to be very careful of what we speak into existence. Sometimes we give too much credit to the wrong spirit. When things aren’t going the way we want in life we might say, “Woo, child! The devil is busy!” Well, Jesus isn’t exactly on break, eating a cheese sandwich, with His legs crossed. Remember, the devil can only do what he’s allowed to do. That means, no matter how challenging the situation or how trying the obstacle may appear to be in your life, Jesus is still greater and very much in control.

Today, try switching your focus from the “who” or “what” of your problem and focus on the “how” and “why.” It doesn’t necessarily matter who brought this problem to you. What matters most are how you deal with it and why is God allowing you to experience it. This thinking will help you realize that God is working on you and using your current situation to make you better than you already are. He wants you to focus on His power and the power He wants to reveal through you.

He keeps going, and going, and going, and…

Lord, You have power and dominion over everything You’ve created. Thank You for giving me that power through Your Son, Jesus. I know my enemies have no power unless You give it, and if so, You’re working for my good. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
