I'll Be There

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.
— Isaiah 43:2 (WEB)

Water and fire are often used to illustrate difficult times in scripture. Water is used because it overwhelms, and fire because it consumes. Yet, in spite of the difficulties associated with the presence of water or fire, God always delivers. Whether the depiction shows the children of Israel escaping oppression through a parted Red Sea, or three obedient boys not being scorched after being thrown into a fiery furnace, the end message remains the same—God is there.

In today’s scripture, Isaiah tells us that we can be comforted knowing that God will bring us through difficult experiences—the death of a loved one, a broken heart, stress on the job. He is always with you and will not allow you to be overwhelmed or consumed. The test of your faith is only to make you stronger, not destroy you.

Go through, but don’t stay

Lord, You are with me in and out of difficult times. I realize Your power and welcome the protection of Your Holy Spirit. Please continue to guide me and keep me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
