The Memory Booster

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
— John 14:26 (KJV)

The brain is one of the more mysterious organs of the body. It amazes me how you can recall a memory just by thinking really hard and turning your eyes upward at a certain angle. When you do this, your brain is calling on your memory network based on a memory you created. This is called encoding. Next the brain consolidates the memory and finally retrieves it. It’s said that the best way to improve your memory is to keep remembering the same thing, over and over again. But, in order to recall a memory, it first has to be there.

When Jesus ascended after the resurrection, God sent his Holy Spirit to abide with us. Besides comforting us, the Holy Spirit was given to teach us and help us remember things Jesus spoke to us through scripture and the preaching of His word. It is imperative that we continue to feed the spirit within us so when situations arise in our life, the Holy Spirit has “something” spiritual of God to bring to our remembrance—not a verse from our favorite rap or a quote from a reality TV actress. And the best way to improve your memory is to keep praying and studying His word over and over again.

Fill 'er up!

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Holy Spirit that resides in me. Every day I will continue to learn more of You and Your way so that the Holy Spirit can comfort me and remind me of Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
— This is my prayer
