Speak to My Heart

Jesus told them a story showing that it was necessary for them to pray consistently and never quit.
— Luke 18:1 MSG

How am I supposed to pray all day? I have to work. I have to do homework with the kids. I have errands to run. People to talk to. Things to do!

Today’s scripture often confused me. I used to believe it was impossible to pray all day. Then, one day I was listening to one of my favorite gospel songs, “Speak to My Heart” by Pastor Donnie McClurkin. It was a song that I had listened to numerous times before, but this time God revealed an answer to me.

At the beginning of Speak to My Heart, Pastor McClurkin’s background singers softly sing, “Keep on talkin’ to me, keep on talkin’ to me…” almost in the form of a chant or meditation. It was then that I realized prayer is a two way street. Prayer is not just me talking to God, but it’s also Him talking to me. At work. While running errands. And especially while talking with others. So sometimes, I drive home without music, or wash dishes in silence. God always has something to say and if I’m not hearing Him, that means I’m not doing any listening.

Jesus wants to answer the question you have about your relationship. He has a solution to share with you concerning your financial situation. He wants to direct your next steps to reach your goal. He wants to remind you He loves you. He wants to talk to you. His voice sounds like His word. Open your heart…

Can you hear Him?

Keep on talking to me

Heavenly Father, thank you for your guidance. Help me to realize what’s important and what’s distracting me from your work. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
— This is my prayer
