Don't Lose It

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
— Matthew 5:5 (NIV)

“Don’t mistake kindness for weakness” is a phrase we’ve heard before. Believers of Christ aren’t weak. In fact, we’re mighty! Some think strength is best shown when a person towers over others or by the commanding charges of a brutal bully, while meekness is letting others use and abuse you. But which do you think takes more strength; to show no restraint or to control your strength?

When you face animosity, don’t lose control. Handle your situation with meekness. To be meek translates into the Hebrew equivalent of gentleness, which is a characteristic often used to describe Jesus. Jesus had all power and could command legions of angels to war against His enemies, but He chose to show His strength through meekness. Even when your actions in life and toward others are to glorify God, sometimes you’ll be used or abused. You may feel mistreated and not appreciated, but Jesus will not allow you to be conquered. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; and He promised through your show of meekness you’d inherit it.

A gentle giant

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of meekness You provided. Thank you for blessing me as I practice self-control. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
