I've Made Mistakes

27th Psalm Series - Day 10

Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.
— Psalm 27:10

I’ve come to realize that my life will be full of mistakes. I’ve also realized the mistakes I’ve made in life don’t have to define me, but can mold and guide me into what God created me to be—if I let them. But, the opposite is also true. If I don’t forgive myself and choose to let my mistakes define me, I miss the lesson God wants me to learn in order to grow. It’s easy to get stuck in this rut if you’re surrounded by people who don’t support this process. Family may abandon you. Your closest friends may stop supporting you. You may even be critical of yourself. But find peace knowing that the Lord will receive you.

When people forsake you or bring up your mistakes, say to them, “Yes. I’ve made mistakes, but your mistake is believing that’s all God has for me.” Will Durant said, “Forget mistakes. Forget failure. Forget everything except what you’re going to do now and do it.” In other words, learn from your mistakes and move on. You don’t have to hold your head down in shame any longer. You don’t have to keep punishing yourself and reliving your past. Forgive yourself. God has. Jesus sees past your mistakes, loves you regardless, and still has work for you to do.

He died for me

Heavenly Father, thank You for never forsaking me. I know when others leave me, You will always be there to receive me. Thank You for loving me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
