The Mainline

27th Psalm Series - Day 7

Hear my voice when I call, LORD; be merciful to me and answer me.
— Psalm 27:7 (NIV)

One of my favorite church songs is Jesus is on the Mainline. Deacon Fox of my church can sing the heck out of this song, adding more feeling to each verse as he progresses. Mainlines are telephone lines connecting a call to the public switchboard telephone network. Back in the day, in order to get a call through to someone, you had to call the mainline, and the operator would attempt to connect or “put your call through.” Sometimes the mainline would connect your call. Sometimes it wouldn’t.

The song tells believers that you can connect your call to Jesus at any moment without going through a public switchboard because He is on the Mainline. When you call Jesus, He will answer and show His grace and mercy towards you. Your call won’t fail. And since He is on the mainline, Jesus will not only hear your voice, but connect you with the blessing needed in your life. All you have to do is call Him up and tell Him what you want.

Call Him up, call Him up!

Merciful Father, thank You for hearing my voice when I call Your mighty name. Thank You for Your mercy and thank You for answering when I call. You are worthy of all the praise. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
— This is my prayer
