God of Comfort

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
— 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)

There’s a scene from the original Superman Movie with Christopher Reeves (1978) where he swoops in and saves Lois Lane as she falls screaming from a crashed helicopter. Superman assures her by saying, “I got you.” Lois frantically looks around for what’s supporting her hero in flight and says, “You’ve got me!? Who’s got you!?”

During times of trouble when you need comforting, you can trust that God’s got you, but who has people who may not know the comforting power of Christ? What about believers whose faith needs strengthening? God wants you to know He has your troubles handled so you can focus on comforting others in their time of need. He wants everyone to experience His compassion and comfort through you. Most times you’ll find your healing is unlocked when you help someone else heal.

You’re someone’s hero

Heavenly Father, thank You for comforting me in all my times of trouble. Please empower me to show Your compassion and comfort to others so that they too may know You and Your love. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
