Distractions

But the LORD is in His holy Temple. Let all the earth be silent before Him.
— HABAKKUK 2:20 (NLT)

God is always speaking to us. He’s constantly directing us, guiding us and providing our spirits with the right things to say, the right way to react and the right way to treat others. So, if God is always speaking to us, how is it that our relationships are in the conditions they are? Why does it seem like our country is turning away from God and evil is running rampant? It may be because we are distracted and aren’t making ourselves available to hear God’s voice.

Distractions. They’re all around you and they are not always that obvious. You have deadlines to meet at work, you’re sleepy at the end of the day, you have homework, have to cook, have to protest, have make groceries, have to do it all over again tomorrow – distractions. Sometimes you have to allow yourself to be silent. Sometimes you have to remove yourself to hear what God wants to reveal to you. You don’t always have to go. You don’t always have to volunteer. You don’t always have to do whatever “it” is that’s distracting you from hearing Christ or spending time with Him. (I bet your phone chimed just now!) Put the earth on mute and allow the Lord to pour into you. Guarantee He has something to tell you.

Don’t talk. Just listen.

Heavenly Father, I recognize You as all powerful and all knowing. You are in Your holy temple. I will keep silent before You to receive Your wisdom, knowledge and blessing. Pour into me, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
