Do the First Thing

So he, trembling and astonished, said, ‘Lord, what do You want me to do?’ Then the Lord said to him, ‘Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.’

I recall applying for a job one day. The process was two phone interviews, and if I passed those, I’d have a face to face interview with the team for a final interview and to accept the position. To get to the interview, I had to use my GPS because I didn’t know where I was going. After I entered the address in the GPS, a voice told me to turn left at the end of the road. That was the first thing I had to do to get the job I interviewed for. What would happen if I didn’t do the first thing I was told?

In today’s scripture, Saul (Paul) has his sight taken after an encounter with Christ. To be blessed with the restoration of his sight, he had to do the first thing Jesus told him. Some of the blessings God has in store for you are pending you doing the first thing He told you. God wants to bless you after you forgive that person who wronged you. God wants to pour you out a blessing after you tithe this Sunday. Before Christ performed any miracle, He always asked the recipient of the miracle to do something first. What is Jesus asking you to do today?

Heavenly Father, I know what You want me to do. Forgive me for not immediately doing it. Thank You for blessing me over and over again as I follow and obey Your directions. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
