Offenses Happen

Then He said to the disciples, ‘It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come!’
— LUKE 17:1 (NKJV)

Let’s face it… Offenses happen. As long as you’re living, you’re going to be offended by something or someone. It’s inevitable. Someone may wear a bright, red hat with big white letters that may offend you. Someone may cut you off during rush hour traffic that offends you and makes you want to extend half a peace sign to them. A new policy or law may be put into effect that offends you due to your beliefs. It’s pretty much impossible to live life and not be offended by something.

Since scripture tell us that offenses will happen, we have to be prepared to do something else that scriptures says: Forgive. How many times do we have to forgive? Jesus says in Luke 17:4, “Seven times in a day.” Forgiving someone who has offended us can be difficult, but that’s because we’re trying to do it on our own. Jesus said that if we have the faith of a mustard seed, we can say to a mulberry tree, “Be pulled up and be planted in the sea,” and it would have to obey us (Luke 17:6). Forgiveness of an offense can only be accomplished through faith. It’s not impossible. It’s godly.
