Be Vigilant

Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.
— COLOSSIANS 4:2 (NKJV)

Prayer is important in the life for the believer. It’s how we communicate with God, but more importantly, it’s how God communicates with us. The bible constantly reminds us of this importance. To always pray, to pray without cease, or to continue earnestly in prayer. And God wants our prayers to have purpose and not just be about our own needs, but for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. In order to understand what this type of prayer looks like, we must be vigilant.

When you’re vigilant, you’re able to observe what’s going on around you. You see the world’s agenda and how it differs from God’s. Pray. You’re heart bleeds for the homeless situation in your community and around the world. Pray. Leaders aren’t leading in a godly manner and the land is in desperate need of healing. Pray. When vigilant, you no longer turn a blind eye to what’s going on around you. You’re aware and you attack it through prayer and good works. Finally, after your prayer, you thank Jesus, because you know it’s already done. You believe it and receive it according to your faith and willingness for the Lord to use you as the answer to the prayer you’ve just prayed.

Heavenly Father, I will continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving. I know it is already done. Use me, Lord, to accomplish Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
