Hold It Together

From whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
— EPHESIANS 4:16 (ESV)

The body of Christ is not fitly joined together only when things in life are going great. God designed the body of Christ to share life’s loads through good times and bad times.

If someone in the body of Christ is suffering, then we all suffer. When you lack, I lack. When you’re hurt, I’m hurt. In order for the whole body to grow, each part has to be working properly. Scripture says we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. When the body of Christ is built in love, it no longer looks to please itself. It doesn’t care what anyone else will think or what it will take to restore the part of the body that needs help. The goal of the body then is to remain joined, holding it together, supporting each member of the body until each part is working properly again.

I need you. You need me.

Heavenly Father, thank You for designing us to be fitly joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped. I will help others when they are weak and help the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
