Be Like Christ

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.
— 1 PETER 2:23 (NLT)

In 1992, Gatorade created a commercial, “Be Like Mike.” It featured Michael Jordan of the NBA. The commercial highlighted Jordan being Jordan: playing basketball, dunking, winning championships and drinking Gatorade. It boasted the idea that everyone dreamed of being like Jordan; doing what seemed impossible, being the best in his sport and possibly the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time). Chances are, no matter how many Gatorades you drink, you may never play as well as Mike did, but there is someone way better than Mike you can strive to be like… Christ!

You can be like Christ and you don’t have to drink no Kool-Aid to do it either. To be like Christ, start with loving God and loving others as you love yourself. This includes not retaliating when you feel you’re not treated right. Jesus never sought revenge against those who mistreated Him. Instead, He prayed for them. Christ left His case in the hands of God just like you can. Think about: who better to handle your enemies than God?

Yes, you can!

Heavenly Father, I want to be like You. I will not retaliate or seek revenge against those who insult me, mistreat me or cause me pain. I choose to leave my case in Your capable hands. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
