Soul and Spirit

My soul yearns for You in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for You.
— ISAIAH 26:9a (NIV)

There have been times when I’ve had generous fills of pops and juices, but still remained thirsty. Even though I was full, my thirst had not been quenched. It wasn’t until I drank water that the spot was hit and my body said, “Thank you!” Just as our bodies require water, our souls and spirits require living water. We constantly need to fill them with Christ in order to face the world we live in.

At night you may fill your soul with countless hours or television or turning the pages of a good book. During the day, you may fill your spirit with projects at work, meaningful conversations and endless errands. Though all the boxes may be checked on your to do list, you may still feel that something is missing. You need to commune with God. When you have the Holy Spirit, your soul yearns for God in the night. Your spirit longs for Christ in the morning. And until you fill your soul and spirit with the Word of God, your feeling of incompleteness will persist. You’ll continue to be stressed no matter how much you rest. You’ll continue to seek peace in the wrong activities and love in the wrong places. Be sure God is at the center of your soul and spirit. Continue to fill them night and day. You’ll be happy you did.

Seek night and day

Heavenly Father, forgive me for putting people and things before You. From now on my soul will yearn for You in the night and in the morning my spirit will long for You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
